What does installation facilitation mean?
EU 2021/1243 addresses technical requirements that facilitate alcohol-interlock installation in M and N category vehicles. This does not mean that every vehicle must leave the factory with an alcohol-interlock device installed. The review concerns how suitable installation is made possible and how the manufacturer documents it.
Begin with the connection description
Anemon recommends comparing the manufacturer’s installation document with the vehicle electrical architecture. Record how power, ground and interfaces associated with starting or enabling movement are provided. If additional hardware, software or procedures are needed, match them to the document instead of making assumptions.
Make the intervention boundary explicit
The official framework relates the interlock to engine starting or enabling movement after activation of the master control. It must not interfere with a running engine or a moving vehicle. A drawing showing the connector location alone therefore does not define the review. Functional boundaries and conditions for access to security-related information also matter.
