Is a CSMS certificate the vehicle approval?
UN R155 addresses the manufacturer’s Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) and cybersecurity requirements for a vehicle type as connected but distinct subjects. Describing management processes alone does not explain the risk and mitigation evidence for a particular vehicle type.
Map supplier information to the vehicle architecture
Anemon recommends identifying electronic units and external connections, then linking each to its risk assessment, mitigation and verification record. Go beyond a supplier’s general conformity statement: record which evidence applies to your actual vehicle configuration.
Plan responsibility beyond development
The R155 CSMS framework covers development, production and post-production. Monitoring threats, keeping risk assessments current and responding when necessary are part of that framework. Your file should show not only the initial assessment but also who will handle a new finding and how it will be recorded.
Use R155 and R156 for their respective tasks
R155 concerns cybersecurity and CSMS; R156 concerns software updates and SUMS. The workstreams connect, but the texts are separate.
