National Legislation: AİTM and MARTOY
Türkiye's national legislation governing vehicle manufacture, modification and installation is the “Regulation on the Manufacture, Modification and Installation of Vehicles”. It is commonly referred to by its Turkish abbreviation, AİTM. The framework is widely used by small and medium-sized manufacturers and provides a national approval route developed for the conditions in Türkiye. MARTOY provides the corresponding national framework for applying European vehicle type-approval requirements.
UNECE Regulations and European Union Legislation
UNECE regulations and EU legislation are frequently used by vehicle manufacturers and medium-to-large industrial organisations. They may support broader approval strategies and facilitate registration in international markets. Directive 2007/46/EC, the former framework directive, was replaced by Regulation (EU) 2018/858.
System and component approvals are essential elements of the overall process. Where several vehicle types share comparable systems, such as lighting or braking, an appropriately structured approval can cover common technical characteristics and help avoid unnecessary duplication of testing. This is why the approval strategy should be designed across the relevant systems and variants rather than vehicle by vehicle.
