“A caravan below 750 kg does not need registration” is no longer a sufficient answer for a transaction in Türkiye. Production date, the certificate of conformity and the electronic vehicle record must be checked together.
Do O1 caravans need registration in Türkiye?
The general registration rules and the transitional provisions must be read together. The controlling source is the Turkish Regulation on the Provision of Vehicle Sale, Transfer and Registration Services, especially Articles 9 and 15 and Temporary Articles 9 and 10. O1 is a trailer category, not the name of a registration document.
Three periods to distinguish

The 2035 date is not unconditional permission for every old or undocumented caravan. The production date and ARTES conditions matter. Vehicles within that transition which remain unregistered after 1 January 2035 may not be used on the road.
Which plate is used during the transition?
Temporary Article 10 provides for qualifying, not-yet-registered trailers to display the towing vehicle's plate number at the rear. This is tied to that transition; it does not permit every newly produced O1 caravan to use the towing vehicle's number.
How is the application prepared?
Check the VIN, manufacturer and CoC first. The manufacturer's or importer's electronic document preparation is separate from the owner's notarial registration. The general rules assign registration of these trailers and semitrailers to notaries, who issue the registration certificate and plate-printing request. Ask the handling notary for documents specific to the vehicle and transaction.
Use the O1 document checklist to compare vehicle identity and records. If the CoC is missing, contact the manufacturer or importer. Temporary Article 10/3 refers force-majeure cases to a procedure determined jointly by the Justice and Interior ministries; it is not blanket authority to create a new VIN or CoC.
Registration does not settle every other requirement

Frequently asked questions
Can every 2024 caravan wait until 2035?
The production date alone is insufficient. The other conditions in Temporary Article 10, including ARTES information transfer, must be checked.
What about a caravan produced in early 2025?
Do not merge the two dates into a general exemption. Obtain confirmation for the actual vehicle and transaction.
Is registration a new type approval?
No. Existing manufacturer, approval and individual CoC records are checked first.
