Define the EMC scope during integration

An electronic unit’s approval information and its installation conditions on a vehicle answer different questions. Use a common R10 reference to define the configuration being reviewed by EMC specialists, suppliers and homologation staff.

Vehicle and subassembly context

Review EMC provisions for vehicles and electrical/electronic subassemblies.

Keep charging configurations in view

Consult the selected edition’s grid-connected REESS charging-mode provisions.

RegsUP is the regulatory platform from Anemon Innovation. This article introduces its related PDF product.

Why review emissions and immunity together?

UN R10 addresses unwanted electromagnetic emissions and the behaviour of functions when exposed to electromagnetic disturbances. Vehicle and electrical/electronic subassembly assessments form part of that framework. Observing that equipment operates does not by itself demonstrate completion of the relevant EMC assessment.

Define the test configuration first

Anemon recommends beginning the discussion with a short configuration record: vehicle or subassembly identity, hardware/software revision, connections and operating modes. Compare the installation and conditions covered by the supplier report with that record. This is a preparation method, rather than a replacement for the regulatory test plan.

When adding an electronic unit, for example, record more than its approval marking. Document how it is connected to the vehicle and how its relationship with the existing approval scope has been assessed. The application scope determines the technical assessment required.

Charging is a separate configuration

R10 contains additional EMC provisions for grid-connected REESS charging mode. A stationary vehicle in that mode should not simply be treated as its normal driving configuration. Read the relevant text and explanations alongside the actual charging installation.
